Cultural Excursions Fall 2026

Join us for a private street art tour of Bushwick, an up-and-coming neighborhood in northern Brooklyn! Discover over 50 multicolored murals in this ephemeral outdoor museum. The massive warehouses that line the streets of this neighborhood provide a perfect canvas for this diverse array of vibrant masterpieces, which include works by Ramiro, Iena Cruz, Nepo, Don Rimx, Dasic, and more.

The tour guides have an intimate knowledge of the street art and graffiti world, and lead you through a diverse array of artwork and describe the backstory behind and techniques used in the creation of these awe-inspiring pieces. Make sure you bring your camera along so you can capture these incredible pieces before it’s too late!

Central Synagogue

Central Synagogue was designed by Henry Fernbach, one of the prominent Jewish architects in America. Its two towers incorporate large spheres topped by spires and three-dimensional seven-pointed stars. A crenellated decorative Belleville sandstone exterior with three entrance portals and two side-aisle entrances surmounted by a great rose window represents an interpretation of the Dohány Street Synagogue in Budapest. We’ll learn about this and more of the many sanctuary features.
 

The object of the Grolier Club is "to foster the study, collecting, and appreciation of books and works on paper, their art, history, production, and commerce.” 

We will explore two special exhibits: Henry Wessel - Photographs and Books, from the Collection of Jack Gray; and The Pioneers in Hand Papermaking: 50 Years of Innovation at Dieu Donné. Curated by Susan Gosin and Cynthia Thompson.

In celebration of Asia Society’s 70th anniversary, Asia Society Museum presents Buddha and Shiva, Lotus and Dragon: Celebrating 70 Years of Asia Society and the Rockefeller Legacy.

Displaying 70 of the finest examples of Asian art in the United States drawn from Asia Society’s permanent collection, the exhibition showcases the extraordinary range of bronzes, ceramics, and metalwork thoughtfully assembled between the 1950s and the 1970s by John D. Rockefeller 3rd (1906-1978) and his wife Blanchette Hooker Rockefeller (1909-1992). They founded Asia Society in 1956 with the mission to promote greater knowledge of Asia in the United States; the bequest of the collection to Asia Society in 1979 underscores the Rockefellers’ conviction that an aesthetic encounter with great works of art promotes deep cross-cultural understanding.
 

Over 100 years old, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine is the world's largest Gothic Cathedral, combining soaring architecture with intimate spaces that inspire awe and reflection. We will explore the many highlights of the Cathedral's history, architecture, and artwork, from the Great Bronze Doors to the seven Chapels of the Tongues.

 

The Skyscraper Museum celebrates the City’s rich architectural history and examines the historical forces and individuals that have shaped its successive skylines. The museum explores tall buildings as objects of design, products of technology, sites of construction, investments in real estate, and places of work and residence.

 

Hamilton, his name is Alexander Hamilton, but where did he live?  His home, Hamilton Grange, completed construction in 1802. This home preserves the legacy of Alexander Hamilton and his role in founding the United States. The home was relocated to a 3-acre section of St. Nicholas Park, which is open for exploration. 

 

This tour includes the room in which actors met secretly in 1913 to form the labor union Actors' Equity Association; the pool room where Mark Twain and his fellows played; displays of stage props and costumes dating to the 18th century; and an extensive, museum-quality art collection. Edwin Booth’s bedroom suite, which has undergone two phases of structural and object conservation, offers visitors an extraordinary view of our founder's life as the most acclaimed American actor of his day, and much more!

Step back into 1826 New York City with a guided tour of the Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden! Celebrating 200 years in 2026!

In the 1820s and 1830s, men and women would travel from crowded downtown Manhattan up to “the country” of East 61st Street and the Mount Vernon Hotel to spend the day enjoying fresh air and leisure-time activities: socializing, listening to music, playing games, reading, dancing, taking carriage rides, and feasting on a hearty meal with the finest delicacies of the day.

This 1799 carriage house, one of the oldest structures in Manhattan, was once one of approximately fifty day hotels operating in and around New York City and is now the only historic site devoted to interpreting these unique places.
Our trained docents help visitors travel back in time as they explore eight historic rooms and hear fascinating stories of New York City history—from what people ate and wore, to the music they listened to, their favorite pastimes, how they flirted, and how society was changing.
