Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as lead manager and innovator 
    • Foster a culture among JASA’s senior housing services staff that promotes the delivery of high-quality, diverse tenant-centric services
    • Provide clinical, administrative and budget oversight as well as leadership to the design, implementation, and overall coordination of all aspects of service/tenant coordination and support services 
      • Identify and prioritize a services delivery approach that reflects contract obligations and aligns with specific community needs and JASA’s mission
      • Make assignments to service/tenant coordinators, clerical staff, undergraduate/graduate students, and volunteers 
      • Establish and monitor housing site-specific budgets and ensure contract compliance 
      • Build broad partnerships to enhance service delivery at housing sites
    • Engage service/tenant coordinators as a team to ensure that information and knowledge are shared 
    • Identify measures for portfolio success and oversee information gathering and metrics evaluation
    • Participate and represent JASA as an active member in quality assurance efforts, NYC HRA SARA provider meetings, NYC Continuum of Care initiatives, ESSHI provider meetings, and other housing-related coalitions as appropriate
    • Stay abreast of evolving senior housing services trends and identify and evaluate innovative strategies, incorporating as appropriate
  • Identify new business/program development including preparing proposals and overseeing the implementation of new initiatives
  • Establish protocols, in compliance with agency and funding-source standards, regarding initiatives such as working with formerly homeless tenants
  • Collaborate and coordinate activities with leadership and staff from housing management and other JASA portfolios and/or departments
  • Serve as program ambassador
    • Testify at policy hearings, if called upon 
    • Serve as senior-level liaison to funding sources 
    • Represent JASA on professional and community committees, program planning, conferences, training seminars, and community activities as appropriate
    • Assist agency staff in their contacts with other human service agencies, housing entities, community organizations, and groups
  • Work in collaboration with the Chief Program Officer or others to develop overall strategies for supportive tenant services programs including responding to RFPs, etc.
  • Manage support staff development, training, and performance as follows:
    • Provide supervision, address job performance and conduct annual performance evaluations in accordance with agency and funder standards
    • Work with HR to recruit and interview employment candidates
    • Recruit volunteer staff
    • Identify student placements as appropriate
    • Identify and establish initial and continuing education training 
  • Complete required documentation, including reports and statistics
  • Perform other related tasks as requested or assigned


The Senior Director, Residential-Based Services will have the following qualifications:

  • MSW (with NYS license) or related degree and a minimum of 10 years experience in social services for older adults and/or in senior housing
  • Proven experience in transferring knowledge and skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and thoughtfully as part of a committed, integrated team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communicating effectively in writing and orally
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to solve problems, prioritize work, work independently, and excel in a high-performance culture
  • Ambitious and creative with professional maturity and ability to motivate others 
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with client databases 
  • Ability to travel to program sites and other locations using mass transit 
  • An understanding and appreciation of the roles of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual preference, and individual values have as they relate to serving clients
