Program and Position Overview:

JASA assumes the legal role of community guardian for adults who have been judged legally incapacitated by the courts and require a legal guardian. Through assessment, comprehensive service planning, regular visits, ongoing support, and regular reports to the courts, JASA ensures that the needs of these individuals are met. A large component of these services entail the financial management of the assets for these individuals. Currently, we have over 700 individuals under our care.

Job Summary:

Function as a business partner with CGP operation senior management team to provide effective guidance and financial counseling to manage the program. The Finance Manager for JASA’s CGP program is responsible for the efficient and effective financial management of the financial transactions of over 700 clients that are currently within JASA’s care. This position is responsible for the supervision of one assistant finance manager, two senior accountants, five staff accountants, and one accounting specialist. The job requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a diverse constituency of individuals in a fast paced and fluid environment. The finance manager reports into the Controller of Services.


Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervises a team of 9 to ensure timely processing of routine and ad-hoc transactions for over 700 clients that are currently within JASA’s CGP programs
• Manage all accounting operations, including AP, AR, cash management, investments, trusts, journal entries, month-end close and clients’ financial records
• Manage chart of accounts and journal entries to ensure the integrity of financial data in accordance with GAAP
• Work with external auditors and prepare key audit schedules
• Work closely with the accounting team to ensure bank accounts are reconciled and recorded in a systematic and timely manner
• Oversee and meet deadlines of court-mandated Guardianship annuals submission as it relates to finance
• Oversee Marshalling of assets and establishing new accounts (including trusts) for new and/or existing clients, when necessary and performs relevant termination responsible termination responsibilities as required.
• Coordinate the creation of clients’ annual budgets and understand variances
• Serve as a focal point for the development of dashboards and other analytical KPIs to assist in focusing on critical financial areas
• Develop procedures and processes to ensure all transactions are handled in a timely and systematic manner.
• Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data in Fund-Ez and collaborate with IT if and when needed
• Work closely with the service controller and operation team to ensure assets and resources of client funds are used for the personal interest and wellbeing of clients.
• Develop, train, and mentor staff to ensure they continue to work on a professional level
• Ensure the accounting staff has the essential training, knowledge, tools, and other resources crucial for completing assigned responsibilities
• Work closely with management and staff to create a positive environment and provide coaching and motivation necessary for personal success in the workplace

Qualifications and Skills:

• A degree in Accounting with at least 6 to 8 years of experience required
• Minimum four years of supervisory experience
• Working knowledge of accounting principles and financial statement preparation required
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work well with a wide array of constituents required
• Ability to lead and manage projects is essential
• Ability to work well within a busy and fast paced environment is essential
• Proficiency in Excel or other spreadsheet software and Dbase
• Familiarity with a diversity of financial non-profit software essential (Fund-EZ preferred)
• Strong written and verbal skills are essential
• Understanding of the roles of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual preference, and individual values as they relate to serving clients and their families
