Exciting opportunity to join an A-level Finance team as Controller for one of JASA’s divisions – JASA Services. JASA is metro New York’s largest nonprofit organization serving older adults.  It encompasses three major divisions – social services, home care, and housing – serving over 40,000 older adults a year.


General Responsibilities

Under supervision of the Director of Finance, the Controller will be a member of the senior finance team.  This individual will direct all of JASA Services finance functions including financial reporting and budgeting. The position also has oversight over JASA’s corporate entity. The position works collaboratively with JASA’s other two controllers (one for housing and one for home care) as well as other members of the finance team to support projects in areas of financial planning, reporting and budgets. Additionally, this individual will represent JASA’s services agencies to funders, auditors, and all external constituencies.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain controls to ensure the integrity of all JASA Services systems, processes and data;
  • Manage daily accounting processes and ensure accurate and timely completion of monthly financial statements;
  • Analyze financial results and provide management with an understanding of the agencies’ financial performance;
  • Develop annual budgets and periodic reforecasts and projections;
  • Prepare financial reports for both internal and external purposes;
    • Serve as the primary contact for JASA Services-specific program financial audits, and the annual independent audit;
    • Recruit, supervise, and mentor staff to ensure high performance and adherence to ethical and legal guidelines;
    • Collaborate with Executives and program managers as needed; and
    • Perform other duties as required.



  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. CPA preferred. Master’s desirable;
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in the nonprofit sector;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ supervisory experience;
  • Prior experience as a controller, preferably within a multi-million-dollar nonprofit, highly desirable;
  • Knowledge of best practices in fiscal management; and
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct accounting software desirable.



  • Exceptional accounting and financial analysis skills;
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, operational risk assessment and risk mitigation;
  • Proactive, well-organized, detail-oriented, efficient, and highly dependable;
  • Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse and cross-functional teams;
  • Strong collaborative skills, and a commitment to servant leadership;
  • Prior experience with government contracts, especially compliance monitoring;
  • Availability to perform occasional work outside of standard work hours, sometimes with little notice; and
  • Exemplify the desired culture and philosophies of the organization
  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects effectively 
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and familiarity with other Microsoft applications;
  • Excellent written and oral communication;
