JASA's Institute of Judaic Studies continues to attract a diverse group of older adults with its innovative blend of educational programs—including courses, lectures, and special programs—on Jewish themes.
The Institute of Judaic Studies is intrinsically linked to JASA's mission to provide the highest-quality programs to older adults in the metropolitan area, and reflects the agency's commitment to core Jewish values. Our eclectic mix of high-level courses and top speakers from the worlds of politics, art, and culture has already garnered the attention of intellectually inquisitive older adults across New York City. Building on its success at its original home at the Council Senior Center on the Upper West Side, the Institute of Judaic Studies has now expanded to include programs at the Riverdale YM-YWHA, 14th Street Y, and JCC in Manhattan.
Only a year old, the Institute can already boast an impressive line-up of alumni speakers, including American Jewish World Service President Ruth Messinger, actor and musician Fyvush Finkel, author Sam Apple, and internationally renowned concert pianist Jeffrey Swann. Courses have included Contemporary Jewish Literature and Popular Culture, Art and Music across the Jewish Diaspora, Images of Israel, Going Global: Diversity and the Jewish Experience, and Jewish New York on Film.
