Director of Legislative Affairs

In Molly Krakowski’s opinion, JASA stands out in NYC for helping older adults get the services that will improve their quality of life. She recognizes the need to empower older adults with the skills necessary to best advocate on their own behalf and to be vocal on the issues that will impact them. One of her favorite roles at JASA is to lead the Institute for Senior Action (IFSA) program for advocacy training, where older adults learn to navigate the complex government structure in NYC and to effect change. “There is a lot of power in having people advocate for themselves,” she says. “We educate participants about how the City works and teach them the skills they need to present their requests effectively.”

IFSA is a training course focused on the workings of the City government and lessons on how to be effective in voicing concerns and demanding action. Molly firmly believes that everyone should know how government works and who is in charge of services in the community. “I don’t think most people realize how much these government offices impact their lives and how critical it is to vote!”

Molly does know, and hopes that through her work with JASA, all seniors in New York will benefit from laws and services that fulfill the unique needs of this growing population in the city.
